"a-MAIZE-ing Harvest" - Door Decor finished size 14" x 18"; Individual Indian Corn Cobs - 13", 15" & 17"; Bittersweet Vine - 20" Long
These Indian corn cobs are a STITCHERY project - NOT rug hooking! Many people have been asking how these are made, and we want to assure you that these are made with a fabric base that is embroidered with the kernels (a very simple technique with lots of photos and descriptions to explain it!)
KITS are sold individually for each color of corn cob, and its husk. We know some customers just want to make ONE cob and this is the best way to make this offering!
THREAD KITS AVAILABLE for CORN KERNELS: Large Gold Cob - $76 (felted wool base and 13 skeins of hand dyed threads from 4 different companies), Medium Blue/Green Cob - $71 (felted wool base and 11 skeins of thread from 3 different companies), Small Red Cob - $41 (felted wool base and 6 skeins of thread from 3 different companies). Each kit contains the thread yardage calculated to complete each cob as pictured on pattern cover. They really do use a variety of threads because no ONE thread had all the colors in it to make each cob realistic!
Pattern is sold separately.
WOOL KITS for HUSKS: Gold corn HUSK - $26; Blue corn HUSK - $31, and Red Corn HUSK - $21; these include wool and threads for husks.
BRIGHT YELLOW COMBINATION CORN COB KIT - This kit has everything to make one bright yellow variegated corn cob - both the wool/threads for the KERNELS AND the wool/threads/wire for the HUSK. This was introduced for a workshop and has since become a popular choice! Available for $62 -BRIGHT YELLOW Corn KIT. Note: this is the same size as the red corn cob and prices the same when the kits are ordered for the red KERNELS and red HUSKS!
THREAD Kits for the Bittersweet Berries! This kit includes the 2 different wool threads to make the berries (5 skeins in total) and the felted gold wool for their husks - to make TWO bittersweet vines, as shown on the cover image of the pattern. Kit does NOT include wires or floral tape.
In autumn, I hunt for the most amazing colors of Indian corn that I can find at road side farm stands. From year to year, I add to my collection, having to toss out a few that have been nibbled on too much by the squirrels! So now this WOOL version of Indian corn cobs should last a long time!
Our pattern includes instructions to make three different sizes of corn cobs, with three different techniques for their husks, plus instructions for crafting a vine of bittersweet from wool, thread, wire and floral tape! Cluster all these together for a door spray or use the cobs and vine independently to dress a table scape, mantle or bowl! Have fun using these wool versions mixed together with real pumpkins and gourds.
Our original design for fully dimensional and realistic looking Indian Corn Cobs and bittersweet vine! This design is made using embroidery stitches such as French knot, Stem Stitch, and of course Blanket Stitch.
Made from felted wool fabrics and stitched with a great variety of hand-dyed, variegated threads from: Weeks Dye Works, The Gentle Art, ThreadworX and The Caron Collection. Complete instructions for stitching the entire project, separately drawn pattern pieces, and our signature "photo sheet" with 50 color step-by-step photographs to coordinate with the written instructions.

This pattern has very detailed instructions and I have found Kathy Gaul to be excellent in answering questions. Now I'm just waiting to order the thread kits so I can make all 3 sizes.
